Spitting Spider

Family Scytodidae

These six eyed spiders actually spit a sticky goo to catch their meal.  Once the prey is stuck to this sticky stuff, the spider moves in for the catch.  I actually saw this happen one night while photographing them.  My flashlight attracted a fruit fly while I was taking the shot...check out the photo in the gallery.  Florida has at least five species of Spitting spiders.  These beneficial spiders are common in and around homes.   Free pest control!
